Glassdoor Announces Awards Criteria for the Best Places to Work in 2018

Glassdoor Announces Awards Criteria for the Best Places to Work in 2018Glassdoor Announces Awards Criteria for the Best Places to Work in 2018 Is your company a Best Place to Work? If so, you can help your company win a 2018 Glassdoor Employees Choice Award for the Best Places to Work .Today, Glassdoor is excited to share 2018 awards criteria to help employees and employers better understand what it takes to be considered.Unlike other workplace awards, there is no self-nomination process and no costs involved. To win a Glassdoor Employees Choice Award, winners are determined based on feedback provided by those who really know a company best - the employees. If employees dont share reviews on Glassdoor during the year-long eligibility timeframe, an employer cannot be considered. Thats why we encourage all employees to share a review today. For the 2018 Employees Choice Awards recognizing the Best Places to Work, Glassdoor will feature six distinct categories in mu ltiple countries. For each category, company reviews and ratings from current and former employees will be considered between November 1, 2016 and October 22, 2017. Reviews submitted after October 22, 2017 will not be considered for the 2018 awards. While Glassdoor accepts reviews from former employees within five years of leaving a company, for the Employees Choice Awards, only reviews from former employees who have left the company in 2017 or 2016 will be considered. In addition, each list of winners is based on local-employee feedback shared on Glassdoor. For example, reviews from U.S.-based employees will be used to determine if an employer is eligible for a U.S. list , while reviews from UK-based employees will be used to determine if an employer is eligible for the UK list . An employer can win a Best Place to Work award in multiple countries. To determine the 2018 winners, quantity, quality and consistency of reviews will be taken into account during the eligibility timefr ame. The following information sheds mora light on these three areas 1. For quantity of reviews , a minimum number of ratings are required across eight workplace attributes that employees can rate when submitting a company review . They include overall company rating, career opportunities, compensation & benefits, culture & values, senior management, work/life balance, recommend to a friend and six month business outlook. If there are not enough ratings across any of these eight workplace attributes, a company will not be considered. These eight workplace attributes will all be taken into account as part of Glassdoors proprietary algorithm to determine winners, led by Glassdoors data science team.To be considered for a specific category, an employer must meet the following requirements during the eligibility timeframeFor all categories, an employer must also have at least a 3.5 overall company rating, and workplace factor ratings (career opportunities, compensation & benefits, cult ure & values, senior management, work/life balance) of at least 2.5 during the eligibility period. Plus, employee count must be current on Glassdoor as of October 22, 2017. The Glassdoor review panel will rely on employee size on an employers Overview page to help assess eligibility. Employers have until October 22, 2017 to update employee size on their Glassdoor profile with a Free Employer Account . The awards also take into account various types of employment position including full-time, part-time, contract and freelance, however, intern company reviews are not considered.2. For quality of reviews , Glassdoors proprietary awards algorithm also takes into account what employees have to say that shows winners truly outshine the rest in the eyes of their employees. Quality reviews are those that help job seekers by offering insights and feedback into what its really like to work at a company, including whats working well, what needs improvement, and advice to senior management, wh ich employees are asked to share when completing a company review. 3. For consistency of reviews, Glassdoors proprietary awards algorithm also looks at trends over time as it relates to both the quantitative and qualitative insights shared by employees. In some cases, if an employer lacks quality and/or consistency of reviews, it can impact results and/or eligibility. Tip We encourage employers to check out free resources into best practices of Best Places to Work winners to learn more.As part of determining award winners, Glassdoor is committed to the highest level of data integrity and reviews quality, including treating all employers equal regardless of whether they are a customer of Glassdoor. If the Glassdoor eligibility panel suspects and/or determines official company representatives have attempted to influence employee reviews or have tampered with the process of collecting authentic, unbiased reviews, including intentional or unintentional acts that violate the Glassdo or Community Guidelines and/or Terms of Use , an employer may be excluded from awards consideration. Exclusion from eligibility can be triggered by such acts as, but not limited to, management attempting to leave false reviews, management coercion of employees to submit positive reviews, or other activities and/or events which could ultimately damage employees faith in the employer, its senior leadership, and/or adversely affect its overall rating on Glassdoor. A best practice is to ask employees to leave an unbiased review every 12 months. 2018 winners will be announced in early December 2017. Want more information? The Secret to Success Is Doing Less and Relaxing More - The Muse

The Secret to Success Is Doing Less and Relaxing More - The MuseThe Secret to Success Is Doing Less and Relaxing More I was in a Starbucks this morning and looked around. Every single person I could see- dressed in his or her geschftliches miteinander finest- was perched in place, looking down at a phone. Swiping, texting, and furrowed brows galore. Being busy seems to be the national pastime. Just think How many times have you picked up your cell phone at 11 PM and fired off responses to email? More is better- right? Our always-on mindset may have deluded you into thinking thats true, but research doesnt agree. Theres a science-backed reason we have a 40-hour wor kweek. Researchers proved that 40 hours optimized productivity. After 40 hours, the more work hours added, the less that actually gets done. Its called the law of diminishing returns. And if you look at the most successful people in the world- from corporate executives to elite musicians- their lives also prove that more is, well, elend more. If you want the saatkorn kind of success in your career, look to unterstellung star performers and learn how to do less.Think Like an ExecutiveLook around at the executives in your organization. Do they know exactly what its going to take to earn their quarterly or year-end bonuses? Of course they do Do they answer every email they get? Probably not- especially not the ones that dont align with their key performance goals. Spend a week or two observing those executives. They are singularly focused on what theyre accountable for achieving. Every request they make, every question they ask in a presentation, and every email they send out is focused on those goals. Now, apply that to your own work. If your compensation was tied only to you achieving your top goals, how would that change your day? Would you really drop everything to attend that meeting that doesnt actually require your input? Would you spend 20 minutes on a conference call, when you could easily get the notes from a co-worker? Think about it. If you arent clear on what your goals are, get with your manager and make sure you know exactly how your performance will be measured. Then become the CEO of your job (because thats exactly what you are).Practice Like an Elite MusicianElite violinists may not be bound by the same 40-hour work week, but the same principle applies. Research found that these high performers practiced no more than the mediocre musicians. Instead, they simply focused their practice times to twice-daily 90-minute sessions, took breaks in between those sessions, and got more sleep. The results? They outperformed the average musicians who spread their practice times throughout the day.Elite violinists consistently and deliberately practice twice a day for 90 minutes each time, without interruption. Then- recognizing the law of diminishing returns- they walk away. You can compress your key priority work into similar sessions. Simply focus solely on your most valued ta sks, without interruption or distraction, for 90 minutes. Take a break in between, and then get back to your deliberate focus. That interruption-free zone is important. Numerous studies conclude that focused, distraction-free work zones allow you to get more done in less time. Not convinced? Try working for one day without constantly checking email, social media, or texts while you work. Youll clearly see that avoiding interruptions is your path to productivity success. Sleep Like a World-Class PerformerNo matter how much you work, working in a fatigued state sabotages your results. Those elite musicians I mentioned? They took naps in the afternoon and got a solid eight hours of sleep per night. It turns out that being able to embrace a relaxed state- by getting enough sleep and feeling rested- is essential to being able to perform at a world-class level. As a busy professional, it can certainly be challenging to get the recommended amount of sleep each night. But adjusting your sch edule is worth it- youll immediately begin to reap the benefits, from lower risk of health issues to improved productivity. By starting these practices now, youll start getting in shape for your own elite career performance. Being distracted by social media and constant interruptions takes your eye off the ball- and off your chances to excel. If you think like an executive and behave like a world-class musician, youll be building the discipline, rigor, and patience to get more done by doing less.Photo of relaxed woman courtesy of Shutterstock.

Get rid of lackluster skills and ancient accomplishments.Provide plenty of room for your awesome credentials to shine by ridding your resume of out-of-date entries. Touting Web surfing ability and basic competency in Microsoft Word doesnt particularly enthuse 21st-century employers. And unless youre a fairly recent high school grad, move on to showcasing achievements beyond those glory days.2. Shake up the order.Speaking of education, consider placing that section lower on the page. Give important skills their due.Worried certain qualifications will get s-lost among other statements? Highlight the most pertinent ones in their own section. Whenever possible, talk about the percentage you increased revenue or saved expenditures. Convey specific details. Dont have it? Start recording it now for future updates(For even more impact, use actual numbers rather than write them out. A scanning eye will be more likely to stop and read when seeing 50% on a resume rather than fifty percent.)6. Liven things up.Live hyperlinks provide a convenient way for the hiring manager to learn more about you or quickly establish contact. Make your email address, LinkedIn profile, and personal website clickable when submitting a resume electronically.7. Be less responsible. And, for that matter, less detail-oriented too. Evaluate your resume to rid it of boring, overused words. Palmer notes that verbs such as initiated, managed, created, and launched pack a greater punch than constantly saying you were responsible for this or that duty.8. Remove References Available upon Request. The phrase takes up room that could be devoted to showing why youre the perfect person for the position. Employers who value references will ask for them without prompting.9. Perform a final once-over.Introducing errors makes those great changes to your resume go for naught.
